Eucalyptus, More Than Just Koala Food

  • by

You’ve heard of Eucalyptus, right?  Yes, exactly, that tree that Koalas hang out in all day eating leaves out of.  Those stinking Koalas are SO flipping cute, aren’t they?  Turns out Koalas are smart, too, because they know how beneficial Eucalyptus is.  Do you?   In this article, we’re going to share a bit about Eucalyptus in essential oil form and how it can benefit you.  Ready to explore?  Let’s go!

What's The Importance of Species?

We’re sharing today about Eucalyptus Globulus essential oil.

There are over 700 species of eucalyptus.  Many species have some of the same properties but,  it’s important to know which species make up the essential oil you are using.   Generally speaking, eucalyptus is good for the overall use of supporting healthy breathing, but there can be some other valuable uses, too.

Facts & Uses of Eucalyptus Globulus

  • Steam distilled from leaves
  • Contains health-promoting Monoterpenes
  • Used by Australian Aborigines for centuries
  • Shown in labs to provide powerful hygienic properties for irritated skin
  • Promotes clear breathing patterns & supports respiratory system functions
  • Eucalyptus trees are planted around N. Africa to promote clean, healthy air
  • Cooling to skin after sun exposure
  • Makes a great pest-free spray while spending time outdoors

Eucalyptus Globulus, also known as Tasmanian Blue Gum, is native to Australia, but can also be found growing abundantly in California & Hawaii here in the US.  Trees can grow to 98 – 180 feet tall (that’s pretty high for a Koala to climb, right?!), and even as high as 260 feet in CA!  Eucalyptus is also a source of nectar for honey production.

Eucalyptus As An Essential Oil

All plants & trees have essential oils (EO’s).  The same, therefore, goes for Eucalyptus trees.  Depending on the plant/tree, the oils can come from roots, bark, leaves, berries, etc…  Oil from the Eucalyptus Globulus tree comes from the leaves.

With essential oils, you really want to be sure that you are researching to purchase an essential oil that is of high quality as that is where you will get the most therapeutic benefit for your body from the plant.

For Eucalyptus. you want a steam distilled EO because that is going to provide you with the best natural medicinal properties of Eucalyptus.

Because the essential oils industry is not regulated by any one entity, there is no one watching over the quality of essential oils that fill the marketplace.  Many EOs are extracted in the fastest or cheapest way possible so that the company can stretch their supply, save their money and make more of yours.  Many manufacturers chemically extract the oil from the plant, which severely reduces the power of the plant’s natural medicinal properties.  Other companies add fillers or chemicals added to the bottle & that is the complete opposite of what you want your essential oils to be.  The whole point of using EOs is to find more natural solutions to problems, right?

Luckily for you, we have done the research and found a brand that we have known, loved and trusted for almost 10 years.  So much so that we feel comfortable sharing that, yes, you can purchase high-quality Eucalyptus Globulus (& other Eucalyptus varieties + 300 other essential oils) there for yourself.  How?  Easy peasy lemon squeezy!  Just head to our SHOP page and click the Shop Essential Oils button & search the site for Eucalyptus.
